Memory Cards: the complete wiki

Memory Cards is the classic face-down matching game: turn two cards over, and if they match they stay face up; if not, they flip back and you have to remember where they were. On Vexply it’s free, with its own 18-figure deck, three boards and three modes.

Rules

  • You turn two cards over per turn.
  • If they match they stay face up; if not, they flip back.
  • While two different cards are showing you can’t turn a third.
  • You win when you find every pair.
  • You get one “peek” per game that shows every card for a moment.

Strategy

With perfect memory every new card is turned at most twice, and Vexply’s time and mistake limits are set so you can always win that way. The key to improving isn’t speed but order: open unknown cards systematically and don’t touch the ones you know until you have their pair.

Tips

  • Go through the board in order (row by row) instead of jumping around: positions are easier to remember.
  • When a new card matches one you’ve already seen, close the pair right away.
  • Give each figure a short name (“blue star”, “triangle”) and repeat it in your head.
  • Save the peek for mid-game, when you know some cards and still need to place the rest.

Common mistakes

  • Flipping cards at random. Go through the board in order, row by row: positions are much easier to remember.
  • Opening a new card when you already know where its pair is: close the pair right away.
  • Spending your peek at the start, when you know nothing yet: it pays off more halfway through.

FAQ

How do you play Memory?
Turn two cards per turn looking for matching pairs; cards that don’t match flip back. You win when they’re all face up.
What happens if I run out of time?
In Time Trial and Precision, the remaining cards are revealed when you lose and the game is saved to your history with the pairs you found.
Can the figures be told apart without color?
Yes: every figure in the deck has a different shape, so color is never the only difference.
